Goleta is the city located just north of Santa Barbara, and which is probably best known as home for UC Santa Barbara. The university is a huge driving force for the Santa Barbara economy, and employs something close to 40% of the workforce in Santa Barbara. Also found in Goleta is a prominent engineering presence, with Raytheon also contributing to the labor force. The tech industry is beginning to boom in Goleta, with Network Hardware Solutions, Citrix, Yardi, and Lynda.com making moves in the area. And if anyone has ever flown into Santa Barbara, they were actually flying into Goleta, where the airport has been located since the 1940s, and just underwent a $54 million renovation. I find a lot of people drawn to Goleta because your money goes a bit further there. Many young families will look to Goleta because you may find a bigger house with larger yard and better condition for a better price than you would find close to Santa Barbara. Also there are lots of good elementary schools in Goleta, and arguably the most sought after high school in Santa Barbara County, Dos Pueblos High School. The foothills of Goleta have some larger Ranch properties with stellar views. Many people discount Goleta just because it is outside of Santa Barbara, but I wouldn’t overlook it. There’s good opportunity in this up and coming neighborhood.
